The 3 Rs of Summer

~SQUIRREL ~  isn't this the cutest darn clipart ever?  Krista from Creative Clips is my favorite artist ever!  I just lover her stuff... the above post pic comes from her Summer Buddies set.  OK, back to business!

I think most of my teacher friends are out for the summer by now. Today is my first Friday of my summer break.  My summer plans can be summed up in 3 words...  I'm going to Read, Relax, and Renew.  I've already started!

It sound pathetic but sometimes I just want to sit and do nothing!  That's right, nada, zilch, zero, absolutely nothing, not even get dressed!  I did "nothing" a couple of times this week.... it was kinda nice, pretty loser like but still I enjoyed it.   The rest of my relaxing this summer will be a little less "loser like" but still relaxing.

I hate to admit it but I am not a reader.... OMG! Did I just say that aloud?  Well it's true, I prefer to watch TV, go shopping, bake, just about anything (except exercising) than reading for pleasure.  However saying that I have a long list of books to read this summer.  For some reason, I love to read in the summer.  Usually it's professional development books and books that would be great for my 4th grade froggies but every once in awhile I find something that floats by boat.  Here is my list to read this summer, in no particular order.

That's 3 professional readings and 3 student book readings plus I want to read some of the books that I am learning about in The Writing Thief.  I am in LOVE with  The Writing Thief so far!  It is inspiring and  reassuring that I am doing some things right. :)  I am learning a lot from this book and I'm not even half way done.  The children's book are from the 2014-2015 Texas Bluebonnet Book nominees. You can find the entire list here.   If you have any book recommendations let me know in the comments.

Next week we are planning to hit the beach.  I live in San Antonio but the coast (Corpus Christi) is just a couple of hours away.  Our first trip will just be for the day.  We want to take our precious pup, Daisy, to the beach to see if she like its.  We will just hang at the beach for several hours and then head back home because we don't want to over do it with Daisy.   We will go back to the beach in a couple of weeks without Daisy and stay a week or so.  Another way I like to relax is just hanging out with my family.  We love to play scrabble and monopoly and even watch movies together.

Renew... relaxing and reading are part of renewing.  I want to be refreshed, renewed, and ready to go once school starts again.  Being renewed includes starting to take care of myself.  I need want to start moving.  I hate exercise and I've gained so much weight!  I have heart issues and diabetes.... you think that would get my butt in gear but it hasn't. :(   I think this is the summer that I have to start eating better and exercise.  Another way I plan to renew is to get rid of the old.  No, not my old man! I still love him to pieces even after 24 years but anything in the house that I haven't used in a while.   I wouldn't say I am a hoarder or anything but I hate to throw things away.  At the end of the year I purged lots of teaching stuff from my classroom and it felt so good so I want to do the same at home.

Well there you have it, my summer plans to Read, Relax, and Renew.  What are you doing this summer?

  1. If sitting around doing nothing is pathetic, then count me among the pathetic crew. I wish I could do that all day sometimes!! (though, 3 small children usually have something different to say about that....) It sounds like you have a fun-filled summer planned, with lots of relaxing! Enjoy it...you deserve it friend!

    1. Ha! I must admit, it is way easier doing nothing having older kids than when they were little. However, I must admit, I miss my kids being little. :) Happy Summer my friend!

    1. I agree about the cooler weather Barbara! I would have to have my hammock inside... it's too hot is South Texas to be outside. :) Happy Summer!

  5. I'm going to need another room for all of the books I have been buying! I can't wait to get an iced mocha (and my glasses!) and a pile of books... and a comfortable spot in which to relax and read. I have Reading in the Wild and The Writing Thief on my list too. Thanks for the recommendation about The Book Thief. Maybe I will start that one first! And, BTW, almost everything in that last paragraph could have been written by me. I'll be cheering for you too as I set those same goals. HAPPY Summer!
