I have her number line up in my classroom and I give each student the mini number lines in their math tool kit. :)Lorraine Vasquerzhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/13772984849437852404noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5199112896622588675.post-47886215457901487252011-09-10T16:26:54.789-05:002011-09-10T16:26:54.789-05:00Number lines are great in the upper grades especia...Number lines are great in the upper grades especially if students are rounding high numbers. For example, if students have to round a number like 12,788 and they have to it to the nearest thousand, I have them write 12,000 and 13,000 on a number line. I then ask students if 12,788 is closer to 12,000 or to 13,000.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5199112896622588675.post-74539361013095500862011-09-10T14:11:27.771-05:002011-09-10T14:11:27.771-05:00If you love number line stuff, check out Kim Sutto...If you love number line stuff, check out Kim Sutton at Creative Mathematics - I use her number line with my kiddos, and we use it for looking at multiples and common factors - it is so much more than a baby tool :) LOVE to see other teachers using number lines!JulesLynaehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/13513889776746319932noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5199112896622588675.post-29178670101524086962011-09-10T03:01:39.451-05:002011-09-10T03:01:39.451-05:00You are so right! The trickest part for a few of them is finding 'halfway'.

Claire
http://misstoffeesclass.blogspot.comClairehttp://misstoffeesclass.blogspot.comnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5199112896622588675.post-50379209768439217232011-09-09T20:43:23.982-05:002011-09-09T20:43:23.982-05:00Thanks for sharing this. If they get it, it's awesome to watch their thinking (you learn so much from them because it's so transparent). If they don't get it, it makes for some interesting small groups. But now it's the weekend, time to relax, reflect, and plan for the next classroom adventure!Sallyhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/06596036551110025151noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5199112896622588675.post-70951643242313636362011-09-09T20:33:03.742-05:002011-09-09T20:33:03.742-05:00Thanks for sharing!! :)Thanks for sharing!! :)Jenny Glinka https://www.blogger.com/profile/05149161012010102922noreply@blogger.com
